Your teeth can change as you age. That is why keeping up with your oral health is vital throughout your life. Here at IQ Family & Cosmetic Dentistry in Rochester, New York, we are happy to talk to you about the importance of your oral care as your teeth change during the aging process.

Your teeth can last an entire lifetime with proper care. By keeping your oral health in tip-top shape, you can keep your smile healthy for years to come. As we age, our body changes, which includes our oral health as well. If you neglect your smile with common oral hygiene habits, you can be putting your smile at unnecessary risk.

Here are some aging tips and tricks to keep your smile healthy and strong as you age:

-If you wear dentures, be sure to keep them clean. If you keep your dentures clean you can keep your gums healthy and strong.
-Floss daily. If you floss between your teeth and along your gum line, you can keep cavities from your smile in tip-top shape.
-Visit your dentist often. If you visit your dentist every six months, you can keep your teeth in healthy shape and correct small dental issues before they become large dental issues.
-Avoid tobacco any way you can. Tobacco poses a serious threat to your smile putting you at higher risk for oral cancer, as well as other health risks like lung cancer.
-Brush for two minutes a day, at least twice a day. Brushing will fight away the plaque and keep tartar from forming on the teeth so your smile stays healthy and fresh.

If you follow these basic tips as you age, you can keep your chompers in great condition for your lifetime.
